Mercer County continues to maintain its agricultural heritage in spite of declining farm numbers. According to the 2007 Census of Agriculture, Mercer County had 1,210 farms. This was down from 1,239 farms in 2002. Even with the decline in the number of farms the total land in farms increased from 164,306 acres in 2002 to 171,860 acres in 2007. The market value of products sold was $60,655,000. This was up 39% from 2002. The top three agricultural commodities for 2007 in ascending order were Cattle and Calves, Grains, and Milk and Other Dairy Products from Cows.
